In anticipation of its March 12th release, David Bowie album “The Next Day” is now streaming in iTunes in its entirety. Click here to listen .
This is the Thin White Duke’s first album in 10 years, reuniting him with long time producer Tony Visconti. He’s backed by some familiar faces too; guitarist Earl Slick, bassist Gail Anne Dorsey and drummer Stewart Campbell.
Following the début single “Where Are We Now?“, the second single “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” was released this week with a video directed by Floria Sigismondi, and featuring actress Tilda Swinton.

My reactions on the first listen are positive (other critics seem to be in consensus). There’s quite a nod to his early 80’s sound, but with a looser feel. There’s a strong anthemic vibe throughout.
“Valentine’s Day” is a particular standout, a glam-rock throwback with one of the biggest hooks he’s put out since “I’m Afraid of Americans.” Other tracks that jump out is the Tin-Machine‘ish “I’d Rather Be High“, and the high-energy rocker “(You Will) Set the World on Fire.”
Still no word on a tour though. Bowie swore off touring years ago, and he’s kept a very low-profile . But guitarist Earl Slick is being a bit of a tease saying he wouldn’t be surprised if he changed his mind. Given his love of the theatrical, I’d say the odds are good. Fingers crossed.
